Thanks to its concept, our unique project Books Discovered Once Again allows the joining of routine library activities with interdisciplinary research and the presentation of cultural heritage. This approach is not very common in our environment, and this is why we see it as very important to introduce it not only to the professional public, but also to university students of the humanities, who this information can help in their studies and open further opportunities to use their knowledge in the area of new trends in the presentation of cultural heritage. If you are interested in the project, you are very welcome to our lectures.
One of the goals of the research team in the project Books Discovered Once Again is to raise awareness of the wealth of books stored in the National Library of the Czech Republic, and another, based on the documents processed within the project, is to present a till-now little-known part of the history of the National Library of the Czech Republic and the former Czechoslovakia. The library funds that are the subject of the project are an interesting testimony to the wartime and post war handling of cultural heritage, a rare testimony to the times, and also in some cases the only documents concerning the functioning of administrative bodies. These documents, stored largely in the Reserve funds of the National Library of the Czech Republic, to this day have not been processed in a satisfactory way, and there is little information about their structure and the legal framework, especially with regard to the current absence of systematic processing of these funds, and only little is known that would document how they found their way into the possession of the National Library of the Czech Republic, who their original owners were, or to what larger collections they belonged.
The basic objectives of this project are to document around 12,000 volumes of non-Bohemian documents from the given period, to subsequently process them in accordance with the applicable standards, to safely store them and adequately present them to the public. Nevertheless, other research activities widely exceed these routine activities. Among the objectives of our research team are the realization of the first systematic archival research project in the given area and the opening up of this area to further research.
Further information on the programme, invited participants, etc., is continuously updated.
