At the beginning of May, the National Library and Stiftelsen Arkivet started work on IV. BFB Initiative, entitled Strengthening the culture heritage research, it will be solved to mid-September.
The initiative builds on the main project Books discovered once again, as well as on the previous three initiatives. The aim is to illuminate the process of handling objects of a cultural heritage during the II. World War and shortly after it. They have been the victim of large-scale transfers across Europe, for example, in the National Library, books originally belonging to the Norwegian institutions were preserved.
In the context of this initiative, the researchers actively participated in the international conference "Accepting and Holding Objects „in Trust“ – an International and Interdisciplinary Perspective“ in Vienna, with the contribution "Looted, stolen, confiscated or just given?" About the most common question arising during the provenance signs surveys inside the National Library of the Czech Republic collection. In addition, Mgr. Marcela Strouhalová will make a ten-day research at the Bundesarchiv in Berlin, devoted to the issue of cultural heritage moves during World War II and after it.
The second, updated edition of the "Books discovered once again" monograph, focusing more on the pan-European context, will also be released. In connection with this, the book will be published in Czech and English language versions.
IV. initiative will culminate in the final workshop in Kristiansand, where the latest findings from the archival survey, the study of secondary literature and the information gained through participation in scientific events will be discussed.
